David is an investment funds and corporate lawyer in the Cayman Islands with over 20 years experience acting for private equity firms, hedge funds and corporates. He has represented funds, from the largest international buy out, real estate and infrastructure funds, to start up hedge funds in all aspects of their Cayman legal and business requirements.
David’s cross border funds and corporate practice encompasses everything from inception to exit and restructuring strategies. He therefore has experience acting for corporates of all sizes in relation to mergers, acquisitions, restructurings, corporate governance and share schemes.
Having represented clients from all over the world, David has developed excellent working relationships across all major jurisdictions, including the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. As a result of the breadth and diversity of his clientele, David is well connected with top onshore firms and is particularly adept at understanding and appreciating the specific needs of clients in particular jurisdictions.
As a trusted advisor, David is focused on fulfilling the requirements of individual clients in a pragmatic and flexible way and he is committed to ensuring that his client’s needs are always met as efficiently and effectively as possible. David also prides himself on his responsiveness and is renowned for tailoring his working arrangements to suit clients and their onshore counsel in order to meet commercial deadlines.
David earned his law degree from the University of Oxford and qualified with Linklaters’ corporate group, working in London and subsequently in Paris. He later joined Skadden, Arps and Milbank, Tweed before moving to the Cayman Islands with his family in early 2007, where he worked at Walkers as a partner in the funds department. David moved to Maples and Calder’s investment funds group as a partner in 2012 and joined Etienne Blake as a partner in 2020.
